Carlos Alcaraz can’t wait to face Alexander Bublik for the first time.
The pair clash in the quarter-finals at the Monte-Carlo Masters today. It’s being billed as the Battle of the Drop Shots.
Carlos Alcaraz is a great entertainer – and Bublik could be equally stunning at Wimbledon 2026. The switch to grass isn’t so far away!
Bublik is notoriously unpredictable – but he can beat anyone on his day. He has the game to challenge even the greatest when his mind is right.
In Monaco, Alcaraz said of their opening showdown: ‘It’s going to be exciting because this is the first time we have played each other in an official competition.
‘We have practised once together and this is going to be interesting. We will see who has the best drop shot! It’ll be a great match.’
Carlitos has found only patchy form so far. He made 23 unforced errors in the second set against Tomas Martin Etcheverry. But Alcaraz still fought through to seal a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 victory.
Carlos Alcaraz will always produce something memorable when needed – especially when he gets to Wimbledon 2026!
For the moment, Jannik Sinner is also still finding his feet on clay. Yet his physical state was troubling the Italian more than the “red dirt” in Monaco.
He complained of dizziness and said he was feeling sick as his 37-set unbeaten run came to an end against Tomas Machac.
Sinner took a medical time-out – which seemed strange considering the fact that he tried to suggest later that he wasn’t actually ill.
Jannik said: ‘Not every day is the same. I was a bit tired. I felt great before the match. In the second set I struggled a bit to find the right energy but this can happen.’
He clinched a stuttering 6-1, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3 win eventually – and takes on Canadian hot-shot Felix Auger Aliassime next.
Sinner has already achieved an important milestone with his 14 Masters 1000 wins so far this season.
Only the legendary Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Pete Sampras have managed that tally in tennis history.
In the other Monte-Carlo quarter-finals, Aussie fighter Alex de Minaur takes on local hero Valentin Vacherot. And Alexander Zverev plays the 19-year-old Brazilian superstar, Joao Fonseca.
Carlos Alcaraz will lead a similarly stellar line-up at Wimbledon 2026. Will you be on Centre Court to witness the sporting phenomenon in action?
