Coco Gauff Aims to Thwart Aryna Sabalenka’s Sunshine Double

Coco Gauff recently said she had trouble believing it’s actually her out there on court, a tennis superstar.

Well she had better believe it now! The American is through to her first Miami final.

And Coco Gauff moves up to world number three next week for reaching this showpiece in her native Florida.

She will jump above Poland’s troubled Iga Swiatek, whatever happens against the formidable Aryna Sabalenka.

And it’s the first time this year Coco will be taking on world number one Sabalenka, who must start as favourite.

Coco Gauff against Aryna Sabalenka would be a fitting final to grace Wimbledon 2026 as well!

And with their head-to-head record evenly poised at 6-6, it’s not a forgone conclusion that Aryna’s power will prove too much in Miami.

Sabalenka, who dismissed arch-rival Elena Rybakina 6-4, 6-3 in her semi-final, described best what lies ahead against Gauff.

‘A lot of rallies, a lot of emotions, a lot of aggression, a lot of fun. It’s going to be a battle and I’m super excited to play her in another final.’

Sabalenka certainly won’t be scared after racing to a 4-0 lead against Rybakina in an emphatic second set that booked her passage.

But much will depend on how well Gauff serves. She experienced very few of her familiar problems in that department against Karolina Muchova.

And with a stable serving base, Gauff can be quite superb – as she showed in her impressive 6-1, 6-1 romp to the final.

Coco Gauff would carry huge global support into the Wimbledon 2026 final if she made it. She is one of the most popular players in the world.

And Gauff was typically respectful to Muchova after her semi-final victory in Miami, where she feels none of the normal stress of being on the road.

Coco said: ‘It wasn’t as straight forward as the score line suggests. But it feels great to be at home. I’m alternating between my parents’ house and my own!’
