Arthur Fils Saves Four Match Points to Down Tommy Paul in Miami

Arthur Fils and his never-say-die fighting spirit proved too much for America’s Tommy Paul on this remarkable occasion in Miami.
The 21-year-old Frenchman was 2-6 down in the final set tie-break before storming back from the brink to win the next six points.
When Paul netted under the corrosive pressure of yet another punishing rally, the celebration scenes from the French camp were something to behold.
Fils brought his shirt up over his head soccer-style, as the sporting crowd roared their appreciation for this knife-edge, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (8-6) tennis drama.
Arthur Fils and Tommy Paul will bring their best gladiatorial tennis qualities to Wimbledon 2026 this summer too. We can’t wait.
For now, the reward for Fils is a first semi-final in Miami, against the dangerous Jiri Lehecka.
As we have seen from others during the Sunshine Double, it’s difficult for players to hit the heights again so soon after such sporting ecstasy.
We shall see how it all unfolds for Fils at the business end of this glittering tournament.
But for now he is understandably jubilant and defiant after his unlikely victory.
Arthur said: ‘It was a dog fight and I never back down from a fight. Even if I lose, it’s OK, I just fought the best I could.’
Meanwhile arch-rivals Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina will face off once more – this time in the Miami women’s semi-final.
Former Wimbledon champion Rybakina came from a set down to beat America’s Jessica Pegula. And Sabalenka saw off Hailey Baptiste.
Arthur Fils and Aryna Sabalenka will bring their warrior spirit to Wimbledon 2026 as well!
