Jack Draper Takes Down Djokovic, Cam Norrie Plays Alcaraz

Indian Wells

March 12, 2026

Jack Draper hugged Novak Djokovic tightly when the battle was over, like a child embraces a hero.

The Brit was the defending champion on an epic night at Indian Wells. But the legend stood on the other side of the net.

And Draper needed all his fighting spirit to take down a man fourteen years his senior.

Djokovic took the first set because Jack crumbled while serving to stay in it. This moment of weakness looked ominous for the underdog.

Novak was playing with such poise and confidence. He was striking the ball so much more sweetly.

That’s when Draper dug deep to drag himself back into contention and prepare an enthralled crowd for an unforgettable final set.

Jack Draper will aim to be involved in similar knife-edge drama on Centre Court at Wimbledon 2026!

He had taken a set off the all-time-great at the All England Club as a teenager five years ago. That announced his arrival in the big time.

But Jack had never beaten Novak – and it looked as though his chance had gone in an extraordinary decider in the desert.

Draper served for the match at 5-4. But somehow he simply couldn’t get over the line.

Djokovic maintained a defiant self-belief. And he looked favourite to force his own victory when he led 6-5.

The 24-year-old refused to submit to the veteran, who is now pushing thirty-nine. He held serve to set up a tie-break – and started it well.

The crowd was going wild in the place they call Tennis Paradise. Many were willing Novak to make more history.

Tim Henman, the former British tennis hero, was courtside for Sky Sports and told Draper to seize the moment.

But the Serb battled back from 1-3 down, as the two gladiators used all their power and guile to try to break the other’s will.

Finally youth triumphed over experience. Draper unleashed a sizzling winner to prevail 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). And he will never forget this achievement.

Jack Draper and Novak Djokovic still work hard to be part of dramatic moments like this. They might just do it all again at Wimbledon 2026!

The winner struggled to contain his emotions as he admitted: ‘It’s just an incredible feeling. I’m out here against Novak, to me the greatest player there is. Someone I’ve been admiring and watching since I was a little kid.

‘I still don’t feel like I’m playing anywhere near the way I want to play. I won this match through determination.’

Daniil Medvedev will be Draper’s quarter-final opponent. It might be tough for Jack to raise his game again so soon after making this memory. We’ll all hope he can do just that.

Meanwhile Cam Norrie faces world number one Carlos Alcaraz after the Brit beat Rinky Hijikata 6-4, 6-2 and the Spaniard brushed aside the plucky Casper Ruud 6-1, 7-6 (7-2).

Carlos Alcaraz is the best there is right now. He’ll want this huge Indian Wells title badly. He’ll want his crown back at Wimbledon 2026 even more. But Jack Draper will be desperate to go deep at his home Grand Slam this summer.
