Jannik Sinner Completes Semi-Final Line-up at Aussie Open
Australian Open
January 28, 2026
Jannik Sinner showed he is back to something like his best with a clinical victory over Ben Shelton in straight sets.
You sense that his semi-final opponent, Novak Djokovic will not pose too much of threat either, despite his extraordinary career.
Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic are both players we still long to see at Wimbledon 2026, of course.
But by his own admission, Novak was mentally on his way home from Australia after being completely outplayed by Lorenzo Musetti.
The talented Italian was two sets up when he had to retire through injury. Even Novak admitted his adversary had been a ‘far better player’ on the day.
Unless Djokovic finds something truly special when it is least expected, Sinner should win through to Sunday’s final.
And waiting for him there should be Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard will be the heavy favourite against Sascha Zverev, who isn’t in the same league when it comes to movement around the court.
Alcaraz had way too much for home hope Alex de Minaur in the quarters -and romped through to Friday’s semi in straight sets.
Zverev took four sets to edge out Learner Tien. But there was nothing to suggest the German can take down the world number one in Melbourne.
Jannik Sinner against Carlos Alcaraz is the greatest rivalry in world sport right now.
We can’t wait for Wimbledon 2026 – and the prospect of these two tennis giants doing battle on Centre Court once more.
Back in Melbourne, the women’s semi-final line-up is less predictable in a way than the men’s – although we fully acknowledge no outcome is certain in any sport!
American interest in the Aussie Open women’s semi-finals will be high. Jessica Pegula looks very determined this year.
She has defeated two compatriots, reigning champion Madison Keys and Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova so far this tournament.
Pegula plays a former Wimbledon champion, Elena Rybakina in her semi-final – and it looks like a very even match-up right now.
You’d tip Aryna Sabalenka to edge the spirited Elina Svitolina in the other semi-final – and eventually take the title.
But no one knows what will happen in Grand Slam tennis! Jannik Sinner was moments from having to retire earlier in the tournament – until the organisers closed the roof.
Jannik Sinner should now make the final and play Carlitos yet again, though! We tip Alcaraz to take the Australian Open title this time around. But it will be so close, whatever unfolds – just like the scenario we anticipate for the showpiece at Wimbledon 2026.
As long as it’s a great match, who really cares who wins? We just feel lucky to be able to look forward to such a titanic clash. And we hope for a similar spectacle at Wimbledon 2026!
Will you be at Wimbledon 2026? Come and join the party! British royalty and Hollywood superstars will be there too!
We’re waiting to hear from you.
