Emma Raducanu is showing the sort of form that could see her go deep at the US Open next month.
She has beaten Maria Sakkari in Washington after a stunning second-set comeback against the Greek.
And that maintained the momentum created by defeating former Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in the previous round.
Emma Raducanu may already be tempting some of her fans to start dreaming about what she could achieve at Wimbledon 2026!
Who can forget her epic showdown against Aryna Sabalenka on Centre Court at Wimbledon a few weeks ago?
Raducanu is steadily gaining the strength and consistency she needs to be able to edge big-name opponents like that on huge occasions going forward.
In Washington, she had seen off Osaka 6-4, 6-2 with a ruthless display. Emma took advantage of three out of four break point opportunities when it really mattered.
Her quarter-final victory over Sakkari was more chaotic – and in some ways more heroic too. She had to come from 3-5 down in the second in order to progress.
‘I’m pleased to have toughed it out on a courrt that suited the liveliness of her game,’ Raducanu said later. ‘It was brutal. You had to enjoy suffering.’
Ultimately Emma’s hard work in training paid off once more as she stormed through 6-4, 7-5.
She explained: ‘I’m doing a lot of good work. Little by little you build confidence. You’ve banked the hard work and that takes pressure off results.’
Now Raducanu faces Anna Kalinskaya for a place in the Citi Open final – the perfect hard court run in the gradual build-up to the US Open.
Emma Raducanu is already a proud former US Open champion. She won’t fear Flushing Meadows. But her biggest dream now must be to win Wimbledon 2026.
That drama awaits us all next summer. But we’re already preparing for the big one in London – and there’s no reason why you couldn’t start thinking ahead too.
