Taylor Fritz Stunned by French Hope Corentin Moutet at Queen’s

Taylor Fritz will have extra time to practise on grass for Wimbledon 2025.
Unfortunately for the American, that won’t be match practice in the days to come.
French qualifier Corentin Moutet absorbed both a match point in the second-set breaker – and also a blow to the face from a Fritz forehand to emerge a deserved 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (9-7), 7-5 winner.
Taylor Fritz triumphed in Stuttgart last week – and he will still be dreaming of victory at Wimbledon 2025. He is certainly expected to go deep.
But this blip won’t help him any. Fritz and young Brit Jack Draper seem to be battling for the fourth seed spot at Wimbledon 2025.
The Englishman may think he can now stake a claim and improve his chances of a run to the Wimbledon 2025 semi-finals.
Taylor will wish he had converted that match point at 7-6 in the mid-set tie-break. His opponent broke twice in the overall match from a total of four chances.
Fritz hadn’t been broken once in Germany the previous week – and will want to tighten that serve for the big one at Wimbledon.
But you have to give credit to the flamboyant Moutet, who sometimes makes controversial on-court remarks and doesn’t always come across as the most sporting player on tour.
At Queen’s he largely produced the right kind of fireworks – and was rightly proud of his achievement.
Especially after Fritz fired straight at him while the underdog was serving for the match at 5-4 in the decider. Corentin fell to the floor but was soon able to recover.
Moutet prevailed eventually and said: ”It’s my second top-ten win this year and in my life. I’m so happy for myself and my team.’
Taylor Fritz will make sure he is back with a bang at Wimbledon 2025!
