Jessica Pegula Climbs to World Number Three after Charleston

April 7, 2025

Jessica Pegula is already enjoying a fantastic year on the tennis circuit.

Now she has added the Charleston title to her Miami Open final appearance and her triumph in Austin.

Jessica Pegula could be right there in the thick of the action at the business end of Wimbledon 2025 too.

Three American women feature in the top five of the WTA rankings released today.

And Pegula has now climbed above Coco Gauff. Aussie Open champion Madison Keys makes up the US trio.

Only Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek are better placed in the world top five, as the European Grand Slams approach once more.

Pegula was a Wimbledon quarter-finalist in 2023. And on current form she could do even better at the All England Club this time around.

Perhaps it was Jessica’s fighting spirit that impressed most of all on the green Charleston clay.

The tide had turned so emphatically against her that she was being swept away in the second set.

Pegula’s plucky compatriot Sofia Kenin led 5-1 – and had three set points to level the match at one set all.

But Jessica refused to accept the momentum shift that might have seen her downfall, had it been left unchecked.

Incredibly, Pegula bounced back to take the contest 6-3, 7-5 and lift more silverware.

Jessica Pegula will believe she has a great chance to reach the final four for the first time at Wimbledon 2025. Then anything can happen.

And the 31-year-old showed what a good person she is during the post-match speeches, where Kenin must have been heartbroken.

Pegula said: ‘You’re always a tough opponent. I wish you nothing but the best for the rest of the clay season. I’m sure I’ll be seeing you again very soon.’
