Alexandra the Great is what they’re calling her in Miami after an extraordinary run to the semi-finals.
Her real name is Alexandra Eala – but you probably won’t have heard of her…until now.
Alexandra the Great could also be the unknown quantity at Wimbledon 2025 – where no established star will want to play her!
The world number 140 has just beaten 2022 Miami champ Iga Swiatek 6-2, 7-5 to reach the semi-finals.
No Filipino had ever beaten a Grand Slam champion before this tournament. Now the nineteen-year-old has beaten three in a row!
Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys and now Swiatek have fallen to her power.
Next up is Jessica Pegula, who defeated the resurgent Emma Raducanu 6-4, 6-7 (3-7) 6-2.
Emma needed a medical time-out before the final set as she struggled to breathe. The young Brit had been 5-2 ahead in the second.
And you wonder what she could have achieved if she had made shorter work of securing it.
Pegula picked her winners with casual ruthlessness in the decider – but she knew she had been in a fight.
Meanwhile the much younger Alexandra Eala was already resting up for the next battle by then. Will she have more energy for the showdown?
Can Alexandra use her youthful fearlessness to take down a fourth big star and further justify that new nickname?
Alexandra the Great and Jessica Pegula will be star attractions at Wimbledon 2025 too.

And ironically it was Iga who acted as keynote speaker when Eala graduated from the Rafael Nadal Academy in 2023,
The top Pole had already trained with Alexandra before her Miami debut a couple of years earlier.
Alexandra Eala has learnt quickly and well from the giants. Now she has the world at her feet and doesn’t seem too overawed by the attention.
‘Belief is what’s going to push you through during the good moments,’ she said as she reflected on all the highlights she has so recently created.
