Jack Draper hasn’t been in this situation too many times before in his promising young career.
The exciting Brit has reached the semi-finals of the Qatar Open whilst Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz have fallen by the wayside.
When you outlast reigning and previous Wimbledon champions, you know you’re doing something right.
Jack Draper must be starting to feel increasingly confident he can go deep at Wimbledon 2025 as well.
Imagine the atmosphere on Centre Court at Draper’s home Grand Slam if he can outlast some of the favourites there too.
The 23-year-old Londoner still looked strong after beating former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini in a thrilling three-setter.
The Englishman came through 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 against a likeable Italian who had just scored his first ever win against Djokovic.
Meanwhile Alcaraz suffered a shock defeat to Jiri Lehecka, who will be Draper’s opponent in the semis later today.
The clever Czech cashed in when Carlitos lost concentration at the death in their quarter-final. That caused the 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 upset no one had predicted.
Felix Auger-Aliassime plays Andrey Rublev in the other Doha semi-final as the action reaches a crescendo.
A delighted Jack said of his victory over Berrettini: ‘It was such a tough battle against such a great opponent.
‘I’ve worked really hard and I’m just glad to have found a better level this week, playing matches and getting my confidence back (after injury).’
Draper will rise to eleventh in the world if he tastes glory in the Middle East. He will now look to maintain momentum right through to the British summer too.
Jack Draper could even be a top ten player in time for Wimbledon 2025!
