Carlos Alcaraz Secures Laver Cup Comeback Victory for Europe

Carlos Alcaraz showed why you can never count out a Wimbledon champion.
He sealed a superb 13-11 comeback victory for Europe after the Rest of the World had led 11-7.
Ben Shelton’s surprise 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, 10-7 win over Daniil Medvedev had put the American and his teammates within touching distance of glory.
But then Alcaraz and Casper Ruud took down Shelton and Frances Tiafoe in the doubles.
And Carlitos showed the way to the crown when he saw off Taylor Fritz 6-2, 7-5 in the decisive showdown.
Carlos Alcaraz will be out to win a third successive title at the All England Club next summer when he seeks to dominate Wimbledon 2025.
And although he had a disappointing US Open, the scintillating 21-year-old is clearly back with a bang.
And like all the players, Alcaraz loved the team spirit and common purpose that you only find at tournaments like the Laver Cup.
Carlos explained: ‘Obviously we all came here with a goal – to win the Laver Cup. It’s been a really tough one. We almost lost!
‘But in the end I had the chance to win the cup, so we are really happy with everything!’
It was the first time Team Europe had defeated Team World since 2021. And it gave all the players the chance to step away from their own personal quest for individual glory on tour.
