Jack Draper has always had many of the elements you need to become a global superstar.
The young Brit is super-talented and has plenty of promise. He’s a swashbuckling hero with good looks and a likeable personality. In many ways, Draper is a marketing dream.
But until now, Jack’s young body has sometimes struggled to cope with the rigours of Grand Slam fortnights – and results haven’t always been there for him.
Now all that has changed. Whatever happens against tough Aussie Alex de Minaur at Flushing Meadows, the new kid on the block has done himself proud.

The key to success in Grand Slams is of course to conserve as much energy as possible for the titanic clashes at the business end of tournaments.
Draper was able to do just that through the ruthless way he disposed of the threat posed by Tomas Machac in the round of 16. Jack won through 6-3, 6-1, 6-2 with a minimum of fuss.
This led to an amusing moment as De Minaur learnt of his next opponent and declared: ”I never played Draper in a Grand Slam.’
In fact the first of three victories for the Australian – including Acapulco earlier this year – was at Wimbledon two years ago.
‘Yeah my bad,’ posted an embarrassed Alex when corrected. He remains favourite to win due to his superior experience.
Yet Jack is on a roll and feeling unusually fresh. ‘I feel amazing being in the last eight,’ he said. ‘My first Grand Slam quarter-final! It means the absolute world to me. I’ve definitely felt more and more confident in myself.’
Now he must take that pressure-free confidence into the big contest and try to upset the form book.
Jack Draper will be an even bigger star by the time Wimbledon 2025 comes around.
