American Players Are Going Great Guns at their Home Slam
US Open
August 29, 2024
American players have made a storming start to the US Open this year.
Many will surely be there at the business end of their home home Grand Slam. Judging by their early form, several US stars will be in the hunt for silverware once more.
Third seed Coco Gauff faces a fascinating match-up against Ukrainian star Elina Svitolina in the third round. The young American icon should progress after a tough fight.
Coco served up a bagel in her 6-4, 6-0 romp against German underdog Tatjana Maria in her previous contest.
And superstar Gauff is of course the defending US Open champion and determined to defend her title.
Popular Taylor Fritz downed former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini in straight sets and should subdue Francisco Comesana next.
American players should reach the second week in big numbers at the US Open – and we expect the same pattern at Wimbledon 2025.
Inevitably there will have to be one American casualty when Jessica Pegula plays Sofia Kenin, conqueror of Emma Raducanu in their latest match-up.
But equally one US star will also be guaranteed a place in the next round after these two homegrown hot-shots slug it out.
And it will be a similar story when Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe do battle in what promises to be a scintillating showdown tomorrow.
Tommy Paul should negotiate his way past tricky antipodean Max Purcell. And another who impressed at Wimbledon and seems to be maintaining momentum is Emma Navarro.
Emma plays Marta Kostyuk for a place in the fourth round – and no one will relish the opportunity to play the dangerous Navarro right now.
American players are showing such strength in depth that you just know they will make a big impact at Wimbledon 2025 next summer too.
Will you be there to cheer them on? We can get you some of the best seats on historic Centre Court as soon as you give us the go-ahead.
