Carlos Alcaraz Plays Daniil Medvedev in Wimbledon 2024 Semi

Wimbledon

July 10, 2024

Carlos Alcaraz is defending his Wimbledon title in style.

He isn’t afraid to drop a set or two and often starts slowly. But when the going gets tough, Carlitos gets going.

So it was for the young Spaniard against the in-form American, Tommy Paul. At first it seemed the winner of Queen’s really could pull off a shock on Court No1.

Carlos Alcaraz seems to have an extra gear when he needs it at Wimbledon 2024, though.

And seasoned observers were gasping with disbelief at some of the spontaneous power the reigning champion was able to generate.

You suspect that Tommy Paul knew he was beaten long before Alcaraz closed out 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2. Every time the underdog produced something special, Carlos conjured something even better.

The bigger surprise came in the other quarter-final. Jannik Sinner is world number one, after all. But Daniil Medvedev looked fitter and more comfortable on the big occasion.

Sinner fans will of course point to his dizziness and need for a medical time-out. Some will say it was a miracle the Italian still managed to take the match to five sets.

But Medvedev has never looked better on grass. He is extraordinarily fit and athletic on the surface for such a tall man. He moves around the lawns smoothly and ruthlessly.

And after a potentially crushing breaker reverse in the opener, Daniil showed exactly what he could do against the best player in the world.

Medvedev won that marathon 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 6-3. Now he will try to avenge his straight sets defeat to Alcaraz at the same stage last year.

‘I hope it’s the same result,’ smiled Carlitos cheerfully at the prospect of the latest showdown. And he may well win again. But one thing seems certain.

Carlos Alcaraz won’t find it so easy against Daniil Medvedev this time around. It should be a cracking semi-final

Do you want to be on Centre Court for men’s semi-finals day on Friday? Some believe it’s the greatest day of the entire Wimbledon fortnight!

Just give us a call to experience Wimbledon 2024 in its dramatic final stages.

Paolini defeated the seemingly unstoppable Emma Navarro of America with apparent ease in a surprising 6-2, 6-1 quarter-final romp.

Vekic had to work harder initially to beat Lulu Sun 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 and reach her maiden last-four slot in a Grand Slam at the age of 28.

Wimbledon 2024 will be full of drama in the closing stages. It’s the greatest Grand Slam of them all. Feel the history and be part of the glamour. Come and join us.
