Andy Murray has claimed he is in the final few months of his career.
And that suggests he could retire from Grand Slam tennis after Wimbledon 2024.
Here at Wimbledon Debenture Holders, we have been predicting this timing for a while now.
Nothing is set in stone. There are the Paris Olympics to consider. And there is the final Grand Slam of the year at Flushing Meadows – where Murray became US Open champion way back in 2012.
But Wimbledon 2024 looks sure to be Andy Murray’s last Championships as a singles star.

It was Murray who raised the issue of his retirement after a landmark 500th career win on hard courts, notched in Dubai.
This was an impressive victory too – a gutsy comeback against a big-name player. Andy beat Canadian superstar Denis Shapovalov 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
Then he said this: ‘I probably don’t have too long left but I’ll do as best as I can these last few months.
‘I still love competing and still love the game. But it gets harder and harder to compete the older you get, to keep your body fresh.’
Given all the pain he has been through with his hip surgery, rehabilitation and subsequent injuries, it’s an extraordinary achievement for Murray to have battled on long enough to join an exclusive hardcourt group – the Five Hundred Plus Club.
Rafael Nadal has 518 wins on the same surface, Andre Agassi 592. Novak Djokovic stands at a monumental 700 – but may still never get to catch the great Roger Federer, who finished on 783 for the Open era.
Andy Murray is thrilled that he can now be mentioned alongside these eternal legends.
He said: ‘Obviously hard courts have been a great surface for me over the years. And 500 is a lot of matches. So yeah, I’m very proud of that. It’s great to get there before I’m done.’
Andy Murray will give us one last burst of drama at Wimbledon 2024 before he’s done there as well.
Meanwhile another feisty Brit who can’t go on forever is Dan Evans. He lost a thriller against young superstar Ben Shelton in Mexico.
Dan the Man served for the match in the final set after saving three set points.
But there simply wasn’t enough power and zip in the Englishman’s serve to keep the American at bay.
Shelton roared out a huge victory yell after closing the match 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5).
But Evo will doubtless come back strong. And both players will give us huge enjoyment at Wimbledon 2024.
