Wimbledon 2024: Last Championships for Djokovic and Nadal?

February 26, 2024
Wimbledon 2024 is only a few months away now – and the All England Club looks forward to hosting some of the greatest players of all time.
Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have earned that stature. And they were pictured on the same plane recently, bound for the USA and imminent action at Indian Wells.
In fact, Djokovic posted a selfie with his Spanish rival and tweeted: ‘Great company on the way to USA.’
Nadal is the one taking the photo – and was more than happy to be part of the in-flight reunion of two true tennis legends.
With 46 Grand Slam titles between them, you can understand why there exists a unique brotherhood between them – even if Rafa and Novak aren’t close friends.
Wimbledon 2024 could provide the stage for Grand Slam number 47 in that incredible Djokovic-Nadal collection.
And realistically, it’s a 25th major for Novak that is the more probable scenario. Djokovic has won Wimbledon seven times – and was only pipped last year by a phenomenal performance from young Carlos Alcaraz.
The Serb will see Wimbledon 2024 as a massive opportunity to make history at the spiritual home of tennis. Few can match him on Centre Court.
And if Djokovic does win Wimbledon 2024, he will go clear of Aussie legend Margaret Court, who also won 24 Grand Slams.
That will make Novak the undisputed greatest of all time. And there will be nothing left to prove.
Many people predict that Djokovic will continue at the top for a good number of years yet. But he is already getting beaten quite regularly by Jannik Sinner.
The moment it becomes the norm for Novak to lose massive matches to members of the younger generation, he may call time on his career.
Will that losing trend become more obvious between Wimbledon 2024 and Wimbledon 2025? It’s possible. And that could mean that this year’s Championships prove to be the last for Djokovic.
Wimbledon 2024 will probably also be Rafael Nadal’s last as a gladiator at the All England Club.
The only doubt surrounds whether or not Rafa will make it to Wimbledon 2024 at all.
We sincerely hope Nadal’s body holds up between now and July. He will receive a hero’s welcome on Centre Court if he is fit enough to play – and deservedly so.
Rafa has already made it pretty cleat that 2024 is his final year at the top. His ambition for the year was to bid a fitting farewell to all four Grand Slam stages.
Sadly he was unable to appear at the Australian Open in Melbourne. But we hope he will be prepared to risk more on a physical level, once his beloved French Open is out of the way.
