Novak Djokovic Defeat Makes Wimbledon 2024 Intriguing
Australian Open
January 26, 2024
Novak Djokovic has failed in his bid to eclipse Margaret Court’s tally of twenty-four Grand Slams.
The superb Serb is now stuck on the same number of majors as Court after his shocking defeat to Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open.
‘It was one of the worst Grand Slam matches I have ever played and I was shocked at my level,’ he admitted Down Under.
Novak’s thirty-three match unbeaten run stretched all the way back to January 2018. But now it is over.
And that makes Wimbledon 2024 even more intriguing.
Novak Djokovic may need to win Wimbledon 2024 to become the undisputed greatest player of all time.
Most of us would hand him that accolade anyway. But the record books don’t.
They have Djokovic tied with the legendary Australian on those twenty-four Grand Slams.
And if Novak doesn’t win the French Open, then Wimbledon 2024 takes on an even greater significance than usual.
Some will claim that Jannik Sinner now has the measure of Djokovic after beating him for the third time in nine weeks.
And Sinner’s 6-1, 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 victory was truly emphatic after he squandered a match point in the only set he lost.
Jannik also beat Novak in the year-end finals at the group stage – and again at the Davis Cup finals.
But Wimbledon tells a very different story.
Novak Djokovic will feel he can still beat Jannik Sinner on grass at Wimbledon 2024.
He came back from two sets down to win their extraordinary quarter-final at Wimbledon in 2022.
And last year Novak won their Wimbledon semi-final in straight sets.
Could Centre Court be kind to Djokovic one last time at Wimbledon 2024?
If so Djokovic could become the undisputed greatest of all time at the historic home of tennis.
