Iga Swiatek Takes WTA Finals – Can She Win Wimbledon 2024?

Iga Swiatek celebrated as though she had never won anything before.
She had just earned more than $3 million by defeating Jessica Pegula 6-1, 6-0 inside an hour.
But it wasn’t the money that caused her to collapse on her back in the moment of victory.
She wasn’t counting the cash when she melted into tears below her team, barely able to an extend an arm to meet their congratulations.
‘I want to thank my team who have been with me for the whole season,’ she said when she had composed herself.
‘We’ve had many ups and downs. But this is for sure an up, and we’ll have many more if we keep working like that.’
A tricky year had seen Swiatek knocked off the top spot by Aryna Sabalenka. That all changed with an emphatic WTA Tour Finals triumph in Cancun.
There’s no doubt Iga is the best in the world. She only made seven unforced errors all match against a talented American who nevertheless doesn’t seem to relish the heat of battle in the very biggest matches.
Iga Swiatek will enter the New Year desperate for one title though – Wimbledon 2024!
Sure, the grass can be tricky for some. But she is a former Junior Wimbledon champion. And this is the biggest Grand Slam in the world.
The popular Pole can’t keep shying away from a serious tilt at the most formidable challenge in tennis.
Her compatriots the world over will be willing Iga to take a proper shot at the most prestigious crown on Centre Court.
And since she has a sports psychologist to help her overcome any inner barriers to success in July, the big prize really shouldn’t remain beyond her.
Talking of sports psychology, Pegula is in need of some assistance in that department.
There’s no doubting the quality that makes her a top-five star. She breezed through most of these WTA Finals in Mexico.
But when it comes to winning the biggest trophies, the Slams and WTA Finals, she lacks the cold ruthless touch – and seems to detach mentally when the going gets tough.
Jessica deserves better for all her hard work, though around $1.6 million for that WTA runner-up spot might act as some kind of consolation.
Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula will go deep at Wimbledon 2024. But will the much-loved Coco Gauff steal the show instead?
