Jessica Pegula Plays Madison Keys, Jack Draper Marches On
US Open
September 3, 2023
Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys have already ensured American fans will have a quarter-finalist at the US Open.
And that’s even before we turn our attention to Coco Gauff and her much-anticipated match against Caroline Wozniacki.
Jessica Pegula is moving from strength to strength – and held off a spirited fightback from Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina to advance 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. There’s an easy confidence about her game these days.
But Madison Keys has reason to feel confident too. She reached the final here six years ago and was a Wimbledon quarter-finalist only a few weeks ago.
Keys came back to defeat Liudmila Samsonova 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 – and book that mouth-watering clash against her compatriot on Monday.
Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys and Coco Gauff can thrive at Wimbledon 2024 as well. Will you be there to see the American superstars of women’s tennis?
We’ll watch the rest of their progress at the US Open with great interest.
But you could say the first Saturday of the tournament belonged to a Brit who didn’t even win.
Dan Evans put on such a show against the great Carlos Alcaraz – and played with such joy – that their encounter turned into the match of the tournament so far.
Alcaraz eventually triumphed 6-2, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 – with the help of some seemingly impossible shots just when he needed them.
To everyone’s delight and increased entertainment, Evans either reacted with sheer astonishment or simply smiled, as he savoured the occasion against an opponent with superhuman talent.
For another Brit, however, the fairy-tale goes on! Young Jack Draper can look forward to a blockbuster battle against Andey Rublev. The Englishman saw off American hope Michael Mmoh 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Jack Draper can be a real contender at Wimbledon 2024 too – just like Jessica Pegula.
Will you be at the All England Club next July to see the greatest Grand Slam of them all?
