Emma Raducanu has taken a massive step towards a state of super-fitness in good time for Wimbledon 2023.
Behind the scenes there has been a stunning development that augers so well for the future of the much-loved London sensation.
Emma Raducanu can now look forward to Wimbledon 2023 with a new passion!
The former US Open champion has experienced something of a rollercoaster since she shocked the world with her maiden Grand Slam triumph last year.
Some critics have claimed that she has spent too much time working on the commercial side of her lucrative professional life.
But Raducanu has still been able to remind us of her tennis ability every so often. And a big 2022 highlight was when she beat the great Serena Williams.
Deep down Emma has always had a great on-court work ethic – whatever her detractors have tried to tell us.
The problem is that Raducanu has suffered a succession of injuries, just when she was starting to rediscover her rhythm.
Most recently her season was apparently cut short by a wrist injury.
But now Emma has taken one of the most important steps in her career so far.
Emma Raducanu has made a move that seems certain to make her a big physical force at Wimbledon 2023.
She has been seen working with top fitness specialist Jez Green at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton, near Wimbledon. And that’s fantastic news for British tennis fans.
Jez is more than used to the limelight after working with Andy Murray and Sascha Zverev.
Now Emma has the chance to benefit from his brilliant brain. And make no mistake, Green’s outlook is geared to getting the very best out of any tennis star physically.
He recently explained: ‘I’m fascinated by the greats and how they move. The best players are always the best movers.
‘The actual specifics of movement – where the feet place, what angles the hips are, what angles the knees are, the centre of gravity, how wide the base is.’
By assessing Raducanu in these areas, Jez can work out a personalised off-season programme for her. And that should stop her body from letting her down.
Expect a super-fit Emma Raducanu to take Wimbledon 2023 by storm next summer.
If she can turn this new professional relationship with Jez Green into something permanent, it will surely be the most significant collaboration of her career.
The fact that she has such a high turnover of coaches will matter far less if Jez can provide consistency.
It’s great for tennis to know that Emma Raducanu is in good hands.
Will you come and see Emma at Wimbledon 2023?
It’ll be an amazing experience for all concerned!
