Super Brit Norrie Reaches Queen’s Final

June 20, 2021
Cameron Norrie has joined an illustrious group of Brits by reaching the final at Queen’s Club.
Only Andy Murray and Tim Henman have achieved this feat in the last forty years.
And of course wonderful Murray is the only British winner of the tournament since WW2.
Norrie’s rise this year augers particularly well for Wimbledon 2021.
First he couldn’t stop winning on clay. Now he has translated that sparkling form onto grass.
The 25-year-old beat second seed Denis Shapovalov 7-5, 6-2 in the Queen’s semi-final.
And the funny thing was, most of us weren’t even surprised!
We are getting used to Norrie playing this well.
And now Wimbledon 2021 crowds are sure to take their quietly-spoken new hero to their hearts.
Norrie said of reaching the Queen’s final: ‘It hasn’t sunk in yet. I think I played very, very good and I’m so pleased to get into the final.
‘I can’t really describe it. It’s nice to get over the line. It’s a huge tournament for me. I couldn’t be more pleased with myself.’
This means Norrie knows he is more than capable of pulling off an upset or two at Wimbledon 2021.
It wouldn’t be all that much of a shock to see the new star reach the second week at the All England Club.
Of course, it was always going to be a big ask for Norrie to actually win the Queen’s final once we knew the magnificent Matteo Berrettini would be waiting.
The red-hot Italian had beaten both Andy Murray and Dan Evans earlier in the tournament. But that’s just it.
Now we have at least three top British to cheer at Wimbledon 2021 – ex-champion Murray, British number one Evans and the in-form Norrie.
Norrie said of Berrettini: ‘He has a huge serve and he is one of the best players on the tour at the moment.’
So watch out for Berrettini at Wimbledon too. He has also just proved that he can bring his best game to grass and thrill the London crowds.
Thank you Queen’s for whetting our appetite for Wimbledon 2021!
We are now just days away from the biggest tournament of them all.
Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams are waiting to entertain you among many others.
