Serena, Venus and Coco In Thrillers!

Roland Garros

June 2, 2021

Serena Williams summoned her warrior spirit to advance to the third round of Roland Garros after a titanic struggle against Mihaela Buzarnescu.

And it’s her heart and desire that makes Serena a serious contender for Wimbledon 2021.

Her celebrations after two hours and three minutes of fluctuating fortunes were understated.

Perfectionist Serena knows she will need to improve her footwork to go deep in Paris.

And that elusive, record-equalling 24th Slam is never far from her thoughts.

She said: ‘It was definitely important for me to step it up, I had some crucial opportunities that I missed. I want to improve and if I want to win number 24 then I have to improve.’

But every match she plays in the French Open means more fitness for Wimbledon – her best chance of another major title.

And the battle cries she let out at key moments on Wednesday evening told us she means business.

Meanwhile her sister Venus teamed up with another Wimbledon favourite, Coco Gauff in the women’s doubles.

The blend of generations couldn’t quite get over the line after another another fascinating three-set contest.

But it was charming to see the 40-year-old and 17-year-old team up for fun.

Coco and Venus in the doubles at Wimbledon 2021? We hope so!

Fans still remember how Serena teamed up with Andy Murray at the All England Club two years ago.

Venus and Coco would also be a huge attraction on those glorious English summer evenings.

But most eyes will be on Serena on Centre Court as she searches for one more Grand Slam title.

Will this be the last time she plays singles at Wimbledon? We believe that could be the case.

So no one wants to miss the last chance to see arguably the greatest tennis player the game has ever seen.

The historic home of tennis is the fitting stage for Serena to fulfil her dream after all her previous success on grass.

And she looked to be winning comfortably against her Romanian opponent at Roland Garros.

But suddenly the underdog began to hit shots from the tennis gods just when she looked down and out.

It made for a spectacular match before Serena’s irrepressible willpower carried the day 6-3, 5-7, 6-1.

Venus and Coco also won their opening set against Ellen Perez and Zheng Saisai. But eventually the 13th seeds hit back to edge it 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-3.

The good news for Gauff is that she is still in the fight for the French Open singles title.

And even better news for Wimbledon tennis lovers is that we still have superb tickets for this year’s Championships – so you can see all these favourites in London from the best seats in the house.
