Jannik Sinner Storms Back to World Number One in Monte Carlo
Locker Room
April 13, 2026
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz left the court arm-in-arm after yet another tasty showdown in a big final.
Both giants of the game were smiling – even though it is the Italian who now sits alone on top of the world.
Carlitos knows this rivalry makes him a better player too. And they both love thrilling the world with their increasingly potent sorcery.
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz could well clash in the final at Wimbledon 2026 too. Expect more fireworks on Centre Court!
Conditions may well be kinder at the All England Club as we look forward to another classic. Monaco and the windy swirl didn’t allow the very best of matches between these superheroes.
Sinner admitted as much after coming from 0-2 down in the opening set to take the title with a convincing 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 victory.
Jannik claimed: ‘Today was not a very high level from both of us. It was windy. Very different conditions to what the tournament brought until today.’
Perhaps he was remembering how Alcaraz adapted better to the stiff breeze early on. At that stage, it looked as though Sinner was the one cracking under pressure.
The tables were soon turned as Jannik broke back and handled the biggest moments best in the breaker.
Carlitos lost his normal Midas touch in the second set. And the contest was over sooner than the crowd would have liked.
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are sure to offer much more substantial entertainment in the glorious Grand Slam format at Wimbledon 2026.
No one would be surprised if this brilliant pair conjure five memorable sets in another potentially explosive showpiece on grass.
We’ll find out soon enough. The British summer is almost upon us. Yes, Wimbledon 2026 is only weeks away now!
In the mean time, we must salute Sinner’s extraordinary run of Masters 1000 triumphs. Four in a row stretching back to last year – the sort of dominance Novak Djokovic used to notch in his pomp.
Alcaraz acknowledged his arch rival’s magnificence – and the difficulty of achieving his 2026 run alone.
‘The Sunshine Double and then Monte Carlo. You are only the second one to achieve it. This is something incredible.’
Would Sinner swap them all for the 2026 Australian Open, the title that gave Carlitos his Career Slam? Maybe.
But Jannik can now be called the best in the world once more – for the first time since November.
Jannik added: ‘The result is amazing. Getting back to number one means a lot to me. But at the same time the result is secondary.
‘I’m very happy to win at least one big trophy on this surface. I have not done it before, so it means a lot to me.’
Can Jannik win his first French Open title too? Can he complete his own Career Slam on the Roland Garros clay? Few would bet against him right now.
Jannik Sinner might then become just a little more vulnerable to the Alcaraz magic at Wimbledon 2026. It’s so hard to win the French Open and then Wimbledon in the same year.
We shall see how the story unfolds. The main thing is to be there on Centre Court to witness all the drama – and see how the world’s greatest sporting rivalry unfolds at Wimbledon 2026!
