Taylor Fritz versus Reilly Opelka Could Be Fiery in Miami

Taylor Fritz against Reilly Opelka is an all-American showdown attracting some keen anticipation in Miami today.
We’ve already enjoyed a contest between two American friends this weekend when Coco Gauff stormed back to beat Alycia Parks 3-6, 6-0, 6-1.
Now it’s the turn of big-serving Fritz and Opelka, who shut out the British hope Jack Draper 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-0) last time out.
Sixth seed Fritz will have to be at his very best to neutralise the Opelka threat in the round of 32. Reilly’s all-round game impressed as much as his serving against Draper.
Taylor Fritz will want to show he still has the necessary firepower in Florida – and at Wimbledon 2026 later in the year.
The swashbuckling star has reached the semi-finals at the All England Club in the past – and has also been a US Open finalist.
But anyone who watched Opelka’s brilliance against Draper will believe Reilly has a fighting chance of causing an upset.
True, Jack is still on the comeback trail. He might not hit top form until Wimbledon 2026 comes around in the glorious English summer.
Other Brits shone in Miami while Draper shook off the ring rust. Katie Boulter reached the round of 32 before being edged out 3-6, 5-7 by Karolina Muchova.
Fran Jones had to retire against Jessica Pegula – but had already made a precious memory by beating her childhood hero Venus Williams.
And Cameron Norrie lost a hard-fought three-setter to Alex Michelsen, another emerging American star.
Taylor Fritz will have plenty of rivals for American affections at what promises to be an action-packed Wimbledon 2026.
