Jannik Sinner Joins the Greats with Indian Wells Title Triumph

Indian Wells

March 16, 2026

Jannik Sinner joined an elite club by edging out Daniil Medvedev in the Indian Wells final.

He can now rub shoulders with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as the select band of men who have won all six Masters 1000 hard court titles.

Jannik Sinner will try to add another grass court title at Wimbledon 2026 as well. He’ll want to start building a lasting legacy at the All England Club too.

But for now Sinner can savour a satisfying moment before the second of the so-called “Sunshine Double” events in the United States.

Having taken Miami, Toronto, Cincinnati, Shanghai and Paris on previous excursions, Indian Wells was the last piece in Jannik’s jigsaw puzzle.

Sinner will be delighted his body held up so well in the extreme desert heat, too. He has experienced endurance issues on tour in the past.

‘It’s been incredible since Day 1 of the tournament,’ Sinner said. ‘This is a really special tournament.’

And it’s worth bearing in mind that the great Djokovic was 31 by the time he completed the Super Hard Court Six. Jannik is just 24 years old.

Jannik Sinner can now say he has achieved something that his arch rival Carlos Alcaraz hasn’t yet done.

The favourite knew it wouldn’t be easy against the resurgent Medvedev, though. Daniil had been so coldly clinical all tournament.

The serving level in the final was absolutely phenomenal. And the accuracy from both players behind that booming weapon was awesome too.

Jannik won an extraordinary 43 of 47 first serve points, He blasted ten aces to underline his supreme performance.

Medvedev still didn’t crumble until the breakers. He was not intimidated by the challenge of trying to beat the world number two the day after he had beaten the world number one.

He would have become the first man to beat the top two in quick succession since Juan Martin del Potro beat Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer back in 2018.

But Sinner and his serve would not be broken. The Italian held firm under intense pressure to triumph 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-4) – and secure that first Indian Wells title.

‘Amazing tennis,’ acknowledged Medvedev, who hit the headlines for his distasteful gamesmanship against Jack Draper earlier in the week.

Jannik Sinner will be the man to beat at Wimbledon 2026 too, as reigning champion.

But Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev will be among the many top men out to get him.
