Indian Wells
March 9, 2026
Coco Gauff was surprisingly knocked out of Indian Wells. She also admitted to being ‘scared’ by the shooting pains in her left arm.
Meanwhile the tournament is already anticipating the possibility of a blockbuster last sixteen clash.
Jack Draper and Novak Djokovic will meet if both men win their next matches. What a prospect that would be!
And we are already guaranteed an explosive slugfest between Aryna Sabalenka and Naomi Osaka.
The drama in the desert is serving to whet the appetite for the English summer. And that’s where you’ll find the biggest tournament of them all!
Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka, Naomi Osaka, Jack Draper and Novak Djokovic should all be fighting fit for Wimbledon 2026!
And although there was concern for Coco as she retired hurt at 2-6, 0-2 down to Alexandra Eala, she may even be fit for Miami.
That’s if it was just a trapped nerve in a troublesome left arm that caused Coco to quit for only the second time in her career.
She explained: ‘It felt like a firework was going off inside my arm – and then my whole arm felt like it was on fire.
‘It was a scary feeling. We’re going to get an MRI to see what’s going on. Good news is they don’t think it’s a long-term injury, so I should be fine for Miami.’
Meanwhile Jack Draper and Novak Djokovic are on course for a showdown in the last sixteen at Indian Wells.
First Draper has a tough contest with Francisco Cerundolo to negotiate. And Djokovic plays Aleksandar Kovacevic later today. If both men are successful, it’s game on!
Osaka against Sabalenka is certainly going to generate a fearsome display of power and passion on both sides of the net tomorrow.
Coco Gauff will command even more love than those two protagonists at Wimbledon 2026, though. She has been playing on Centre Court since she was only fifteen!
