Iva Jovic Is the New Sensation at the Australian Open in Melbourne
Australian Open
January 23, 2026
Iva Jovic is the name on everyone’s lips at the Aussie Open.
And she is adding to the incredible strength of American tennis with her growing power and presence.
Iva Jovic could make a stunning impact at Wimbledon 2026 too!
She just took down seventh seed Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) to claim her first top ten win.
Jovic is only just 18 – but she has the ability to pick the brains of the wisest player in history,
Yes, Novak Djokovic gave her some great advice just before her showdown with Paolini.
Iva Jovic and Novak Djokovic are two current stars with twenty years between them. And they will both pose a formidable threat at Wimbledon 2026!
So what did Novak tell young Iva before her biggest test so far? She let us in on his secret advice.
‘Just to open up the court a little bit better – and not rush into shots all the time, find some more width,’ she revealed.
‘So I tried to do that and it ended well. So I’m going to just try to keep listening to Novak.’
Next up for Jovic is Yulia Putintseva on Sunday. That contest is going to be even tougher – but it’s winnable. Particularly if Djokovic works his magic again.
Californian-born Iva has Serbian and Croatian roots. She is a regular visitor to Belgrade – and so Djokovic has been an idol growing up.
They say never meet your heroes in case you are disappointed. But the American couldn’t have been more impressed.
She explained: ‘It’s pretty insane. I think for certain people, meeting your idols can be a little bit deflating if they are maybe not as nice or as open as you anticipated.
‘But I think Novak is even kinder and even more attentive away from the cameras than he is portrayed. It was amazing.
‘I mean, he’s so intelligent and smart. He really wants to help the younger generation. So I’m really grateful to have that advice.’
Human stories like that will have to warm the hearts of British fans now that they have no players left in either singles draw Down Under.
Cam Norrie went out to Sascha Zverev in four sets – and he was the last Brit standing in Australia. Wimbledon will surely be different!
Iva Jovic against Emma Raducanu would be a fascinating match-up on Wimbledon’s Centre Court this summer at Wimbledon 2026!
