Carlos Alcaraz Faces Jannik Sinner as Epic Rivalry Continues

US Open

September 6, 2025

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will do battle for the US Open crown and world number one ranking on Sunday.

‘It’s going to be a very special day,’ said Sinner after defeating a plucky Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. ‘It’s a very amazing final again.’

The stage is set at Flushing Meadows and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Alcaraz wants revenge for Wimbledon. It should be explosive.

How lucky we are. By far the two best players on the planet right now. Men of superhuman strength and skill. We can’t wait.

Carlos Alcaraz is the first man to reach the US Open final without dropping a single set since Roger Federer back in 2015.

He and Jannik are the first pair in the Open era to play three Grand Slam finals in the same year. Sinner has appeared in all four!

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will have the world spellbound again if they reach the showpiece on Centre Court at Wimbledon 2026.

For now, it is the Arthur Ashe Arena playing host to one of the greatest sporting rivalries in world sports.

To his credit, Novak Djokovic tries his best to break up the reigning dynamic. He has reached the semi-finals at every major in 2025.

And the 38-year-old played some exquisite tennis before time finally seemed to catch up with him.

Novak even won a point in the magical breaker after Carlitos had hit the ball round the net. Another bullet of a winner from behind the baseline had Alcaraz wincing.

The vast crowd gasped and roared its delight at the drama. But ultimately the Spaniard was too young and too good as he romped away 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.

Sinner also overcame Auger-Aliassime emphatically enough in the end, although the Canadian came up with some stratospheric serving in the second set.

When Jannik then called for the trainer with an apparent abdominal problem, you wondered whether an upset was on the cards.

But the Italian insisted later: ‘It’s nothing too bad. I served a bit faster again. It’s nothing too serious. No excuses.’

Could that tweak give Alcaraz the edge on Sunday with the margins between these two tennis giants so fine? We shall see.

Carlos Alcaraz doesn’t even think he played that well to beat the greatest the world has ever seen.

He explained: ‘It’s a great feeling to be in the US Open final once again. It feels amazing. I’d say it wasn’t the best level but I served really well today and that was important.’

The way Djokovic love-hearted the crowd and waved to all corners on Ashe as he exited the stage made you wonder whether he might soon call time on his career.

He insisted he wouldn’t. But he admitted: ‘It’ll be difficult for me to overcome the hurdle of Sinner and Alcaraz in best-of-five. I have a better chance in best-of-three. But I’m not giving up on the Grand Slams.’

Will we ever see Djokovic playing a final at Wimbledon again? Hard to imagine. But we can make sure you’re there to witness history being made!

Wimbledon 2026 will be full of drama as Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner fight for supremacy once more.
