Amanda Anisimova Plays Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open Final
US Open
September 5, 2025
Amanda Anisimova threw back her head and arched her back as she took in the sheer ecstasy of newfound success.
After screaming to the skies, she knelt and slapped the hardcourt surface on Arthur Ashe. What a journey she has been on!
Surprisingly fabulous performances against her Wimbledon nemesis Iga Swiatek and the resurgent Naomi Osaka, who had looked more than capable of winning the tournament once more.
Amanda Anisimova has grown so fast in psychological stature that we just know the next Wimbledon final she reaches will be a thriller.
Wimbledon 2026 will welcome her with open arms. But for now, the entire tennis world is enjoying her redemption run.
The way she came back once more from looking down and out against Osaka was extraordinary.
She had complained to her support team about her own inaccuracy as Naomi drew first blood. The tide wasn’t turning at all.
Then her new inner warrior emerged once more, with plenty of lethal weapons at her disposal.
And when Amanda Anisimova pours on the power, there is no finer sight in tennis. After nearly three hours of nail-biting action, the American brought the house down to close out 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
‘It means the world,’ she said. ‘I’m trying to process that right now. This has been a dream of mine forever. To be in the US Open final! Obviously the hope is to be the champion.’
The Wimbledon experience should have told her that you don’t allow yourself to savour being in the final for long. It’s all about hunger for the title itself.
Amanda Anisimova must learn from her Wimbledon downfall – and come out with all guns blazing against Aryna Sabalenka.
Her fellow finalist also came from a set down to defeat the battling Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. In the biggest moments, the reigning champion was simply too good.
We can’t wait for Anisimova versus Sabalenka. But in the mean time, we have a colossal clash to enjoy in the first men’s semi-final this evening.
Carlos Alcaraz against Novak Djokovic. What a treat! And that humdinger will be followed by Jannik Sinner versus Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Wimbledon 2026 will see Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Amanda Anisimova all shine brightly too. We have no doubt about that.
