Amanda Anisimova Gains Sweet Revenge over Iga Swiatek
US Open
September 4, 2025
Amanda Anisimova has executed one of the great turnarounds in sporting history.
No wonder she called it ‘the most meaningful victory of my life.’
In the space of a few short weeks, she turned the double bagel embarrassment of the Wimbledon final into a shock victory over Iga Swiatek.
Amanda Anisimova has shown she will be a force to be reckoned with at Wimbledon 2026. She won’t be crushed again.
That doesn’t mean she will necessarily defeat Naomi Osaka in the US Open semi-finals at Flushing Meadows.
The former champion looks to be in irresistible form. Anisimova and Osaka should create a slugfest full of fireworks tomorrow.
The other American in the last four, Jessica Pegula will also have her work cut out to get past the formidable Aryna Sabalenka.
But for now we should simply celebrate the newfound resilience of Anisimova – particularly after she was broken in the very first game.
‘When I wasn’t able to hold in that first game, I was like, “here we go,”‘ she admitted. But that didn’t mean she was going to change her mood.
‘Today, I really came ouy there without an ounce of fear,’ she added.
Instead of crumbling as she did in London, she simply broke back and went toe to toe with her former tormentor.
It was Swiatek who eventually tightened this time. Amanda stayed cool and poured on the power until the match was won.
True, a cruel net cord ultimately finished it 6-4, 6-3. But no one could say Anisimova didn’t deserve it.
The 24-year-old has been to hell and back. Mercifully she didn’t stay very long in her post-Wimbledon agony. And now she can look ahead.
Amanda Anisimova will have the opportunity to lay more ghosts when she returns to Centre Court for Wimbledon 2026. But she is already well on the way to redemption.
She explained: ‘I feel I was able to bounce back from Wimbledon quickly instead of holding onto the guilt.’
Will you be at Wimbledon 2026 to se Amanda Anisimova thrill the crowds? Give us a call to make it happen.
In the mean time the men’s semi-finals at the US Open can whet the appetite for the main event next summer.
Carlos Alcaraz against Novak Djokovic! And Felix-Auger-Aliassime against the champion, Jannik Sinner.
It all promises to be explosive and dramatic. We can’t wait!
