Jacob Fearnley Joins Draper and Raducanu in Round Two
US Open
August 27, 2025
Jacob Fearnley served eighteen double faults during his incident-filled US Open starter.
No wonder he swiped away the ball with a hint of disdain when he finally got the job done overnight.
But somehow he had won through to face one of the very best servers in the business in the next round.
Jacob Fearnley against Alexander Zverev is a match-up the 24-year-old Brit knows only too well.
The big-hitting German beat him at the Australian Open and then again in Miami this year.
Fearnley certainly knows he will have to serve better next time out to stand any kind of chance.
He did at least dish up twenty aces against the seasoned Spaniard, Roberto Bautista Agut in a 7-5, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 win.
But the inconsistency became so frustrating to watch that one supporter in the crowd turned on him very audibly.
Fearnley explained: ‘When I lost the service game at 5-4 in the third, he completely turned. I couldn’t believe it. I wanted to say something.
‘He switched quick. It wasn’t abuse. Just confusing and extremely loud. He didn’t say a nice thing after that.’
Jacob Fearnley won’t have to worry about that kind of behaviour on Centre Court at Wimbledon 2026 next summer.
The spectators at the All England Club are known for their sportsmanship in every situation. But you can’t beat Flushing Meadows for a raucous atmosphere.
New York is a test of nerve. Only Fearnley came through among the Brits to join Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper in the next round.
Katie Boulter, Sonay Kartel, Fran Jones and Billy Harris all fell at the first hurdle. But the biggest names in tennis are still in the fight.
Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner won his opener to join Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic in the next round.
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will be the headline acts at Wimbledon 2026 too. Will you be there?
There’s nothing quite like Wimbledon for history and drama. Come and find out for yourself. We’re waiting to book your tickets for the summer extravaganza.
