Victoria Mboko Is the New Superstar of Tennis after Montreal Win

Victoria Mboko defied all tennis logic to announce her arrival in the tennis big-time.
The Canadian teenager beat no fewer than four Grand Slam champions on her way to glory in Montreal.
Coco Gauff, Sofia Kenin, Elena Rybakina and finally Naomi Osaka fell to Mboko’s power.
Victoria Mboko could be the new superstar of tennis by the time Wimbledon 2026 comes around next summer.
She is rapidly heading for the top 40. Not bad for an unknown starlet who began the year ranked 333 in the world.
But here’s the thing: Mboko committed no fewer than 13 double faults on the way to beating Osaka in the showpiece.
Very few players would be able to come from a set down with that kind of service trouble nagging away at her.
But Mboko came through 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 with an increasingly astonishing display of power and agility.
In the final game, Osaka had actually stopped playing, so confident was she that her seemingly killer drop shot was unreachable.
But Mboko somehow scooped her last-ditch effort back past the favourite, to the delight of the patriotic crowd.
Victoria Mboko is Canada’s new potential Grand Slam winner. Could she go deep at Wimbledon 2026?
No one will want to play her. Osaka was even too shocked to congratulate the 18-year-old during the on-court speeches afterwards.
At least Mboko didn’t struggle for the appropriate words. She said: ‘I was super happy to be playing in Montreal for the first time ever. I just remember feeling nervous, but taking in the moment as much as I could.
‘When I won my first round, I was super content. I would have never thought I could make it to the final – let alone win the tournament.’
