A Canadian is going to win Wimbledon one day. Could Gabriel Diallo become the next big contender at Wimbledon 2026? Those compatriots who have tried before him have come close on several occasions.
Big-serving Milos Raonic reached the Wimbledon final in 2016. Eugenie Bouchard did the same in 2014. Denis Shapovalov made the semi-finals of Wimbledon 2021. Felix Auger Aliassime reached the quarters that same year. Felix and Denis still have time to take their dreams a step further.
DIALLO
But it was Gabriel Diallo who made fans sit up and take notice at Wimbledon 2025. Diallo played one of the best matches of the tournament at the tender age of 23 – and he had only turned pro two years earlier. Gabriel was only edged out by eventual semi-finalist Taylor Fritz in a five-set thriller. And Diallo is climbing the rankings at the time of writing. At 6ft 8ins tall, he is a handful for anyone on grass. Watch out for the hot new Canadian at Wimbledon 2026! Will you be there to follow his progress? Diallo should be seeded by then if all goes well.
DABROWSKI
Gabriela Dabrowski reached the final of Wimbledon 2024 in the women’s doubles, just as she had done in 2019. Gabriela and her Kiwi partner Erin Routliffe were eventually edged out in the 2024 showpiece by Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova on tie-breaks. At Wimbledon 2025, they reached the quarters. Surely Canadian success is just around the corner?
Meanwhile Bianca Andreescu knows what it’s like to taste Grand Slam glory after her extraordinary US Open 2019 victory over the great Serena Williams. But it was by beating Andreescu in the 2025 Wimbledon qualifiers that her compatriot Carson Branstine earned the right to face the fearsome Aryna Sabalenka in the first-round proper. Sabalenka won through – but not before the brave Canadian had taken five games in an action-packed second set.
