Taylor Fritz Wins Twice in a Day to Book Eastbourne Semi

Wimbledon

June 27, 2025

Taylor Fritz and his love affair with Eastbourne continued as he claimed two wins in a day on the south coast of England.

Some have openly wondered why the American expends so much energy on a relatively minor tournament. It comes so close to the big one.

Taylor Fritz is a major contender for Wimbledon 2025. He should perhaps be making sure he has a full tank for the Grand Slam above all else.

But the enigmatic superstar adores Eastbourne so much that he will do anything to win there once more – even if it means playing twice in a day.

And that’s exactly what he had to do after his match on Wednesday against Brazilian sensation Joao Fonseca was suspended overnight at one set all due to fading light.

Fritz eventually closed that one out 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5 on Thursday. But little more than two hours later, he had to play his quarter-final against compatriot Marcos Giron.

That proved a gruelling battle too. Taylor only edged it 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 to advance to the semi-finals.

On Friday Fritz was due to face in-form Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. That will be no walk in the park either.

Taylor Fritz will arrive at Wimbledon 2025 with plenty of grass court success already under his belt.

But will he have depleted those precious energy resources slightly before the matches that really matter?

Fritz is happy to take the risk. He explained his feelings about Eastbourne like this: ‘I’ve been here so many years. I love this tournament and love the way it feels to play here.

‘I’ve been very lucky all those years I won the tournament to not play in windy conditions.

‘It’s tough for me when I don’t get to play the way I love to play, and I have to scrap and play crazy tennis.’

Taylor Fritz will probably have to play more “crazy tennis” at Wimbledon 2025 at some point.
