Carlos Alcaraz Gives Master Class To Set Up Musetti Showdown
Roland Garros
June 4, 2025
Carlos Alcaraz looks to be on collision course with Jannik Sinner now that both men are producing a magic seemingly sent by the tennis gods at Roland Garros.
Last night it was the Spaniard’s turn to conjure something special – and poor Tommy Paul barely knew what had hit him.
The American was nursing an abdominal strain going into the contest. But even if he had been fully fit, it seems unlikely he would have stopped the unbelievable Alcaraz.
Carlos Alcaraz will take some stopping when he defends his title at Wimbledon 2025 as well.
The match was only close in the marathon second game of the encounter. That saw Paul ultimately broken for the first time.
Tommy bravely held his own for much of the third set – but then took his eye off the ball at the business end of proceedings.
Carlitos promptly wrapped up a 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 victory which saw him hit a stratospheric level of tennis brilliance.
Only Sinner has reached the same level at Roland Garros this year. And what a contest it will be if the pair meet in the final!
Carlos Alcaraz against Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon 2025 final would be a magical moment in the All England Club’s illustrious history too.
For now he must face Lorenzo Musetti. The in-form Italian stifled a comeback from the other American quarter-finalist, Frances Tiafoe.
Sadly Tiafoe started slowly – and only really woke up for the second set. But Musetti was the more relaxed and focused overall.
Lorenzo raised his game to close out 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. Musetti will have to find an even greater level to match Alcaraz. And we shall look forward to seeing what that semi-final brings.
Perhaps an even more delicious showdown is the one now scheduled between Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka in a much-anticipated women’s semi-final.
Swiatek held off a determined comeback from Elina Svitolina to win through 6-1, 7-5 and continue her extraordinary 26-match unbeaten run at Roland Garros.
That equals the longest run by a woman at any Grand Slam this century, mirroring Serena Williams and her domination of the US Open between 2012 and 2015.
Sabalenka edged Qinwen Zheng 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 – and offers the best chance of ending Swiatek’s Grand Slam dominance on clay.
