Madison Keys Plays Coco Gauff but Pegula Suffers Shock Exit

Roland Garros

June 2, 2025

Madison Keys against Coco Gauff is the dream quarter-final showdown for American fans at Roland Garros.

But Jessica Pegula will not be joining her compatriots at the business end of the French Open.

The world number three was surprisingly overcome by homegrown outsider Lois Boisson in front of a partisan crowd.

Madison Keys and Coco Gauff will know deep down that Pegula is also capable of going further at Wimbledon 2025.

Particularly since Jessica will now have some extra time to rest and acclimatise to the English grass.

For Keys and Coco, however, the Roland Garros drama is starting to reach a climax. Madison was looking forward to their match almost as soon as she had beaten her fellow American Hailey Baptiste 6-3, 7-5.

But first she paid tribute to Baptiste, who could well have taken the second set with a little more composure.

Madison observed: ‘Hailey is such an amazing player, she is a tough competitor. But I feel happy to have got it done in straight sets.’

Looking ahead to Gauff, Keys added: ‘Coco is so good – especially on clay. She is an unbelievable athlete and done really well here before, reaching the final.

‘It’s great that I’m going to be playing another American!’

Coco took part in the showpiece at Roland Garros in 2022. She won the US Open a year later and she is still only 21.

Madison Keys is also a major winner after clinching this year’s Australian Open. And the strong American presence towards the end of Grand Slams these days augers well for Wimbledon 2025 too!

You can bet that Centre Court will host more than one American in the final stages of Wimbledon 2025.

Pegula will hope to go at least a couple of rounds further on grass, following her unlikely exit to Boisson.

Jessica was making the French woman look very average when she took command of the first set.

But Boisson found her A-game when she had nothing left to lose. And Pegula couldn’t stop the momentum as the underdog won through 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

There will be plenty more shocks at Wimbledon 2025. It’s all part of big-tournament tennis.

Will you come to Wimbledon 2025 and enjoy the fusion of history and fashion? Every day is a marvellous occasion.

Make sure you give us a call to attend at least once during the most stylish sporting fortnight of them all.
