Katie Boulter and Raducanu Face Big Names at Roland Garros

Roland Garros

May 27, 2025

Katie Boulter and Emma Raducanu battled through in dramatic style at Roland Garros.

And their reward will be spectacular showdowns against huge names on the Parisian clay.

Meanwhile another Brit, Jacob Fearnley has already downed a French Open champion in Stan Wawrinka.

Katie Boulter, Emma Raducanu and Jacob Fearnley will add their British charm to Wimbledon 2025 in a few weeks too.

But for now there is much to celebrate about their early exploits at Roland Garros.

Boulter should have won the first set against Carole Monnet. But perhaps she was temporarily unnerved by the volume of the French crowd’s support for their player.

Katie wasn’t going to allow their euphoria to last after she was edged out in the first set tie-break, though.

The Brit took total control from that point on to close out by an emphatic 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-1 – and land her first ever Roland Garros triumph.

That win should still leave enough fuel in the tank for Boulter to come out with all guns blazing against Australian Open winner Madison Keys tomorrow.

There will be no time for a slow start or early nerves against the brilliant American. Keys will be hungry for more major glory.

And Emma Raducanu will haver to risk all-out attack against her next illustrious opponent too.

Raducanu overcame sickness to launch a final push against Wang Xinyu. Emma’s 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 victory owed as much to sheer determination as anything.

‘I was just fighting through. It was really difficult,’ Raducanu explained. ‘I’m really happy because it would have been easy to let [how I was feeling] drag me down.’

The formidable Iga Swiatek is waiting for Raducanu in the next round. She has won the French Open four times. Emma has nothing to lose and can play entirely without fear.

Katie Boulter and Emma Raducanu can use their Roland Garros experience to prepare themselves for the pressures of biggest Grand Slam of them all – Wimbledon 2025.

And Jacob Fearnley will go into his home tournament with his confidence growing all the time as well

He claimed the biggest victory of his career so far by beating former French Open champion Stan Wawrinka 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, 6-2.

The young Brit will face a raucous home crowd when he takes on Frenchman Ugo Humbert in the next round.
