Emma Raducanu and Nick Kyrgios Taste Early Success in Miami

Emma Raducanu will be looking for a new coach despite a solid first-round victory in Miami.

The British superstar defeated Japanese newcomer Sayaka Ishii 6-2, 6-1 – but parted company with Vladimir Platenik, the man who had overseen the early build-up to that success.

Raducanu’s spokesperson confirmed: ‘Emma has utmost respect for Vlado and the work they started but it wasn’t quite heading in the right direction.

‘Emma is now focused on doing as well as she can [in Miami] and will continue looking for the right coach.’

Many observers have suggested that Raducanu would do better on tour generally if she had the stability of a trusting relationship with a longstanding coach.

We sincerely hope she finds the right person for her specific needs in the next month or two.

Emma Raducanu will be keen to come out with all guns blazing at Wimbledon 2025, her home Grand Slam.

And she was at least satisfied with her opener in Miami, despite the strange goings on behind the scenes.

Emma said of her win: ‘I’m really proud of how I competed today. It hasn’t been easy for me coming into this. But I think I put out a really good performance.’

Meanwhile Nick Kyrgios says he feels he ‘belongs again’ after overcoming Mackenzie McDonald 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

The 2022 Wimbledon finalist is one of the great entertainers in our sport. But he has been hampered by a wrist injury in recent times – and doubted he could come back at all.

He said in Miami: ‘I feel like I have been returning better in every game. It’s great being back on court with these world-class players.

‘I walked on court and wasn’t used to that ball speed. It’s been a long road, even to get to the start line.

‘To come off and get a win – I feel like I belong again. It’s pretty special.’

Emma Raducanu and Nick Kyrgios hitting top form at Wimbledon 2025 would be pretty special, too.
