February 27, 2025

Learner Tien has just downed world number two Alexander Zverev in Mexico. Previously he shocked Daniil Medvedev at the Australian Open.

It’s still only February. But the American teenager is making us think a new star has been born onto the tennis planet. And in England we’re already wondering how he will perform on grass.

Learner Tien will be the unknown quantity that no big name wants to draw in the early rounds at Wimbledon 2025!

The nineteen-year-old recently reached the fourth round at the Aussie Open – and he will surely be a threat on grass this summer in London too.

We already know the sparkling left-hander is entirely fearless. He doesn’t over-complicate his thought process. He’s just enjoying the ride.

Tien explained his win over Zverev almost nonchalantly. He said: ‘To be honest I couldn’t tell you how I did it.

‘I just stepped onto the court and tried to control what was happening on my side of the net.

‘I knew it would be a real challenge against one of the best players in the world. Once you achieve your goal , you feel one of the best possible sensations inside.’

Without any huge weight of expectation, it seems like the appropriately named Learner can go from strength to strength as he builds his repertoire.

Californian-born Tien’s parents – both of Vietnamese origin – chose his first name because his mother was a maths teacher,

The youngster certainly seems to have worked out all the angles on the tennis court.

Learner Tien could be a surprise addition if he takes a liking to the beautifully manicured lawns at Wimbledon 2025!
