Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner just made us long for the English summer and Wimbledon 2025.
What a show they put on in Beijing! The twists and turns. The clash of styles and temperaments. It’s just perfect for tennis lovers.
Sinner was 3-0 up in the deciding tie-break – and he lost 3-7! He had been practically invincible in breakers this year, too.
The Italian had snatched the first set 7-6 (8-6) after Carlos had led 5-2. The middle set was comparatively straightforward at 6-4 for the Spaniard.
This is the unpredictable, glorious rivalry the tennis gods have sent us for the present and future.
But in 2024 Alcaraz has won all three clashes between the young giants. And he has come from a set down each time.
Let’s now hope this is the final at Wimbledon 2025. It’s the showdown the occasion demands.

With six titles to his name this year, there is no doubt that Sinner is now good enough to reach the Wimbledon final. He is world number one, after all – and he had been undefeated in finals in 2024 before this one.
But irrepressible Alcaraz loves to be tested. And he becomes super-explosive just when it seems that all is lost for him.
Carlos said generously: ‘He could have won. It was a great match. Once again Jannik showed us why he is the best player in the world.
‘But I’m proud of the way I played the match and met everything when I was down. I never lost hope. To be able to come back has made me really happy.
‘At 0-3 down in the breaker I just decided to go for it. And if I lost I would do that by going for it.’
The result was a display of spectacular fireworks right to the end. What an amazing match!
