WHY WIMBLEDON LOVES THE SPANISH!
Alcaraz
Wimbledon has loved the Spanish for many decades. And following the retirement of the great Rafael Nadal, we have taken a new adopted Spanish son to our hearts. Carlos Alcaraz has captured the imagination ever since his extraordinary victory over Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon 2023. No one expected him to repeat the feat at Wimbledon 2024 in such a mesmeric and commanding fashion. Can Alcaraz make it a hat-trick at Wimbledon 2025?
We can’t wait to welcome champion “Carlitos” and all his enthusiastic followers back to the All England Club once more. We look forward to Alcaraz setting Wimbledon 2025 alight with his brilliance and his fun-loving approach to our beautiful sport. And the truly exciting thing is that we could have years to savour this wonderful young phenomenon as he does battle in the final stages at Wimbledon each summer. To witness the speed and skill of Alcaraz up close is the experience of a lifetime and he is going to get even better! Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon 2025 will simply take the breath away.
Nadal
We want to pay tribute to Nadal and his magnificent era too. We will never stop appreciating what Rafa gave Wimbledon. That included what was arguably the greatest ever final – his victory over Roger Federer in 2008. He also won the title two years later, even though grass was never his favourite surface. Nadal’s warrior spirit will always be remembered. His body may finally have given up on him But Rafa will remain the ultimate tennis gladiator. Has Wimbledon ever seen a greater fighter? Has our love affair with Spain ever been more intense? You even trained our own champion, Andy Murray in Barcelona. Andy and Rafa played against each other from adolescence to retirement. What legends!
Badosa
Following the retirement of Garbine Muguruza, the brilliant Spanish-Venezualan who defeated the great Venus Williams in the 2017 Wimbledon final, there is a new statuesque Spanish queen who graces the Londoin grass. Paula Badosa might also taste Wimbledon success going forward. Perhaps as famous for her romance with tennis superstar Stefano Tsitsipas, we tip Badosa to come back strong at Wimbledon 2025. She has reached the fourth round more than once. We think she can go much further!
Thank you Spain for all you bring – and welcome once more at Wimbledon 2025!
The late, great Manolo Santana once said: “Grass is just for cows.” He changed his mind when he won Wimbledon in 1966. Spanish players have been loving the Wimbledon grass ever since. And Wimbledon has loved the Spanish even more in return.
This love affair doesn’t look like ending any time soon. You’ll feel the magic the moment you arrive at Wimbledon 2025.
We look forward to welcoming you.
