Taylor Fritz became the comeback king of Wimbledon as he took down Sascha Zverev and landed a place in the Wimbledon 2024 quarter-finals.
And Tommy Paul will try to create an upset of his own against Carlos Alcaraz in their quarter-final on Court No1 today.
Meanwhile Emma Navarro has an excellent opportunity to make the last four of the women’s tournament. She faces French Open finalist Jasmine Paolini on Centre Court today.
Taylor Fritz is a player we’ve been highlighting all year as a likely candidate to go deep at Wimbledon 2024.
So we’re thrilled to see the likeable American fulfil his talent in such dramatic style.
It did look as though he had blown his chance when he went two sets down to Zverev. But later he explained how he turned his fortunes round during those difficult moments.
‘I was still playing good tennis and that’s what I told myself,’ he said. Deep down Fritz believed he could still win. And sure enough he stormed back to take the match 4-6, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
There’s no reason why Taylor should leave it so late against Lorenzo Musetti in their quarter-final on Wednesday.
The Italian 25th seed is dangerous – and Fritz knows that. But the American is seeded 13th and must start that match as favourite.
Tommy Paul can play free of pressure in his quarter-final against reigning Wimbledon champion Alcaraz today. But let’s not forget Paul is also full of confidence. He took the Queen’s Club title to start this summer’s winning streak on grass.
Alcaraz has dropped a set or two on his way to the business end of the Championships. And Tommy might just fancy his chances of creating a shock on Court 1.
