Aryna Sabalenka overpowered Coco Gauff in a Melbourne thriller that was a credit to women’s tennis.
And now she faces Qinwen Zheng, who knew too much for Dayana Yastremska.
Both women are worthy finalists. And yet you have to feel for the pair who didn’t quite make it.
Coco showed great courage to come back so strongly in the first set that she actually served for it. In the end, she fell victim to her own double faults and unforced errors.
And you can understand why Gauff risked so much every time, knowing how dismissive the brutal Sabalenka would be of anything average.

‘I hope we play many finals against each other,’ Aryna said afterwards.
But we also hope Britain’s Emma Raducanu can go deep at her home Slam in the summer.
Zheng will have to play exceptionally well to tame Sabalenka in this year’s Australian Open final.
But she is calm and ruthless when she sees opportunities to close in for the kill.
And the Chinese superstar will be there to seize upon any moments of doubt in the favourite’s mind this weekend.
Sabalenka can suffer from notorious nerves when she is tested to the limit. But she weathered such psychological dangers to beat Gauff 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.
There were some glorious moments of breath-taking tennis from both these players.
And Zheng had to hit similar heights to defeat rank outsider Yastremska 6-4, 6-4.
The Ukrainian underdog showed admirable fighting spirit – but just came up short on this occasion.
