Jannik Sinner is fulfilling his promise right on cue!

The brilliant Italian has beaten the great Novak Djokovic to announce another breakthrough for the next generation.

Jannik Sinner must be a true contender for Wimbledon 2024 on this form.

Official artwork at the All England Club depicts Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz as the latest heroes in a long line of all-time-greats.

There was criticism of these controversial choices at first – but they’re looking pretty astute right now!

Carlos Alcaraz won Wimbledon 2023. And who is to say that Jannik Sinner’s name won’t be on the trophy at Wimbledon 2024?

He just beat the biggest name in tennis on home territory in Turin. The atmosphere was red-hot and the tennis was scintillating.

Novak Djokovic tried everything. He even conducted the jeers of the crowd. And when he hit back to take the second set, few would have bet against him.

But Sinner stayed cool and ferocious when it came to the decisive breaker. No wonder he talked later about a new-found confidence in the big moments.

The Italian crowd went crazy as their man took the contest 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-2).

Who can remember the defending ATP World Tour Finals champion Djokovic losing a deciding breaker so emphatically?

Sinner remained characteristically calm as he assessed his biggest win. ‘It means a lot to me. When you win against the world number one who has twenty-four Grand Slams, it’s right up at the top.’

So where did such a huge victory come from? ‘It’s the process,’ Jannik suggested. ‘And I feel I’m a little more confident in a match now.

‘In the second set tie-break he played better than me. But I was brave in important moments, especially in the third set.’

Sinner knew this had been spectacular. ‘When the chances were there, we both played really well – and it was a high-level match. It was a really tactical match and I managed to win. I’m so happy.’

Jannik Sinner playing Novak Djokovic on Centre Court at Wimbledon 2024 would be quite something!

Will you be there to see the biggest names strut their stuff at the most important Grand Slam of them all?

For now, the ATP title hangs in the balance and there’s plenty of drama to come.

‘Grazie a tutti,’ penned Sinner in incredibly neat handwriting on a court camera.

No, we thank you, Jannik. That was some performance!
