Wimbledon 2023 Top Seeds May Not Be Favourites
Wimbledon
June 29, 2023
Wimbledon 2023 is almost ready for the main-draw action – and the seedings have been announced.
These fall into line with world rankings. But the glorious grass of the All England Club may write a rather different story.
Let’s take a look at the women’s tournament first. This could be Iga Swiatek’s year.
She has been made the number one seed to reflect the fact that she is the best player in the world overall.
But Swiatek has never been past the fourth round at Wimbledon. We’re not saying that rules her out of glory at Wimbledon 2023.
We are constantly reminding everyone that she is a former Junior Wimbledon champion.
Wimbledon 2023 is more likely to be won by someone else, if we go on past form at The Championships, though.
Elena Rybakina was 2022 champion – and she could win again if she overcomes her recent health issues in time.
Aryna Sabalenka and Ons Jabeur have suffered surprising grass court defeats in the last week. But they have the talent to go all the way if they get on a run.
Jabeur is edging closer and closer to fulfilling her Wimbledon dream. The likeable Tunisian was last year’s beaten finalist. Yet she is only seeded number six at Wimbledon.
Americans such as Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula will be out to upset the form book and take home the greatest Grand Slam title of them all.
And Caroline Garcia of France might fancy her chances of flying in under the radar when it really matters.
True, Wimbledon 2023 represents Iga Swiatek’s best chance so far. But the women’s tournament is notoriously hard to predict.
The men’s tournament has a clear favourite, in stark contrast. But it isn’t the number one seed.
Wimbledon 2023 would give us a surprise if top seed Carlos Alcaraz were to lift the trophy.
Again, we’re not saying Alcaraz can’t do it. He won Queen’s – and that makes Wimbledon 2023 even more exciting.
But the overwhelming favourite is seeded number two. That is, of course, the great Novak Djokovic.
What a final it would be, if Djokovic plays Alcaraz!
But the likes of Daniil Medvedev and Taylor Fritz will feel they can have a say in London too.
It’s certainly a source of American pride that Fritz and Frances Tiafoe are among the top ten seeds.
Pretty soon the time for talking will be over – and the action will begin.
Will you be at Wimbledon 2023 to watch history unfold?
If you want to make that happen, we’re only a phone call away.
