Andy Murray has won back-to-back trophies on the English grass this summer.
He maintained momentum after glory at Surbiton – and savoured that precious winning feeling with an emphatic fist-pump.
But Murray was even more thrilled by the surprise discovery of his wife and children in the crowd on Father’s Day.
‘Oh my God, I didn’t know they were coming,’ he said, tears in his eyes as he spotted them.
He’ll have his mind back on the tennis next week. And each stepping stone takes Murray where he wants to be.
That means the All England Club in July, with a good chance of going deep.
Andy said: ‘I felt better and better as the week went on here. I’m pumped for the rest of the summer.’
He used the showpiece in Nottingham to prepare and sharpen for those bigger days in the near future.
Andy Murray is looking good with Wimbledon 2023 only a fortnight away!
Meanwhile Katie Boulter defeated Jodie Burrage 6-3, 6-3 to win the first all-British women’s tour final since Virginia Wade and Sue Barker met way back in 1977.
We’ll look forward to seeing Katie Boulter shine at Wimbledon 2023 as well! Particularly after her first main tour title victory in front of her own fans.
A tearful Katie said: ‘I’m going to be sleeping with this trophy tonight. I trained here when I was a little girl. What an incredible all-British final.’
But Andy Murray was the superstar Brit who commanded most attention in Nottingham.
As usual, the Brit’s patience and comfort on grass was clear for all to see in the English sunshine.
Often he just waited for the younger man to make a mistake, knowing he could usually outlast his adversary in any game of cat and mouse.
When he needed a spectacular winner, they were in his armoury too – particularly his backhand cross-court pass..
Andy Murray defeated a 20-year-old Frenchman called Arthur Cazaux 6-4, 6-4 in the Nottingham final, showing superior all-round court craft along the way.
He knew when to exert pressure at the net. He knew when to bide his time.
Cazaux is only just entering the top 150 – and still has plenty to learn. But he did break Murray when the veteran was serving for the first set.
Andy didn’t make the same mistake on his next service game – and sealed the opener with an ace.
The writing was on the wall after the boy from Montpelier failed to hold his opening service game.
It took Murray ten minutes to break though. A trademark lob sent Cazaux scrambling for a desperate ‘tweener.
But there was Andy, intelligent as ever, waiting in just the right place at the net to seal the deal.
Murray was pretty much in control from that moment on, as the morning crowd delighted in his composure.
He found a killer backhand lob to set up the final, crucial break in the second set.
Winning 82% of points on his first serve, Andy knows he has the right foundation to go deep at his home Grand Slam.
Aces got him out of trouble whenever he felt threatened.
Andy Murray is growing in confidence in the build-up to Wimbledon 2023. And so is Katie Boulter!
And we can’t wait to see them perform on Centre Court in July.
The Wimbledon crowds will welcome their favourites every time they step out at the home of tennis.
And visitors from further afield will delight in seeing the world superstars in action.
Will Murray be seeded? That will depend on how well he goes at Queen’s.
But whatever happens before Wimbledon, Murray knows he has the right mindset to make a big impact when it matters.
Will you be there at Wimbledon 2023? It’s going to be spectacular, historic and irresistibly glamorous.
Do come and be part of the greatest sporting show on earth!
