Emma Raducanu Faces Iga Swiatek After Sensational Win

Indian Wells

March 14, 2023

Emma Raducanu is back to her very best in good time for Wimbledon 2023!

She just beat world number 13 Beatriz Haddad Maia at Indian Wells with some stunning tennis.

Now she will face the very best in the business – Iga Swiatek.

Meanwhile young Jack Draper downed the great Andy Murray and takes on the mighty Carlos Alcaraz in the round of 16.

Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper are the new generation stars ready to thrill Wimbledon 2023!

Andy Murray could also go deep at the All England Club on current form. He had plenty of chances to prevail in a tense first set. But Draper ultimately found reward for his more aggressive tennis.

The 21-year-old won through 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 to beat one of his childhood heroes.

Draper explained: ‘I’ve looked up to Andy since I was so young. I watched him win Wimbledon for the first time in 2013 and he is a really special person.’

No wonder there was a warm embrace at the end of this Battle of the Brits. Murray knows he will have to serve better to progress further in tournaments this year. But he is moving well and looking fit!

As for Draper, heavy thigh strapping pointed to an injury issue. But he’ll doubtless learn plenty from the chance to play Alcaraz at Indian Wells.

Meanwhile Emma Raducanu has already given a good account of herself against Swiatek in a previous meeting. And she should go into this latest mouth-watering clash with nothing to lose.

Remember, Raducanu nearly didn’t play Indian Wells at all this year, due to illness and wrist problems.

Now her tennis is positively sizzling. And her psychological strength seems to be growing by the day.

She defeated Haddad Maia despite a fierce fightback from the noisy Brazilian in the second set.

The Raducanu of last year might have crumbled. Not the Emma of 2023,who triumphed 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.

This is the superstar who took the world by storm and won the US Open back in 2021.

She explained: ‘I wanted to step up and be more aggressive. If I were to lose, I would lose going for my shots and doing the right things.

‘Last year I would probably get more tentative in those moments. Today and more recently I’ve been going for my shots more.’

Emma Raducanu really is back with a bang in good time for Wimbledon 2023 – and that’s fantastic news for tennis fans worldwide.

When Emma won the US Open, she beat the woman who was then world number 12 – Belinda Bencic – along the way.

Her latest victory is the second best of her entire career – and the tennis was so spectacular!

Come and see Emma Raducanu play her home slam, Wimbledon 2023! It’s the greatest tournament of them all and she’s in sparkling form!
