Taylor Fritz Wins All-American Battle At Indian Wells

Indian Wells

March 12, 2023

Taylor Fritz won an entertaining all-American showdown with Ben Shelton to begin his title defence at Indian Wells.

The 25-year-old came from a set down to triumph 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in a pulsating opener.

Taylor Fritz also dropped an enticing hint about his Wimbledon 2023 ambitions!

Last year he was a quarter-finalist at the big one – and only lost out to Rafael Nadal in a memorable thriller.

But when Fritz laid out his targets for the rest of 2023, it seemed he already had Wimbledon very much in mind.

Taylor said: ‘After a year in the Top 10, I want to finish this year in the Top 5 and get a good Grand Slam result, at least reach a final.’

Given recent Grand Slam results elsewhere, it’s clear that Fritz is focused on another extraordinary adventure on Centre Court in London.

For now, he will try for an eighth successive win at Indian Wells when he faces Sebastian Baez of Argentina.

Meanwhile we’re also looking forward to an all-British affair between Andy Murray and Jack Draper.

Murray got into a row with the umpire after suffering a time violation during his 6-4, 6-3 victory over Radu Albot.

But after all his recent marathons, he’ll be glad to have something left in the tank for Draper – and he’ll need it.

The young English sensation is in scintillating form and should become a main attraction at Wimmbledon 2023.

Draper saw off fellow Brit Dan Evans 6-4, 6-2 – and his growing power is something to behold.

Murray will have to bring his very best game if he is to stand a chance of stifling his rival.

Who would you support if Andy Murray plays Jack Draper at Wimbledon 2023?

And Britain has yet another reason to be excited as the Indian Wells action starts to hot up.

Emma Raducanu has overcome a wrist injury and illness to win yet again as she continues to conjure her best form.

She defeated Poland’s Magda Linette 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 and simply wanted the victory more.

Emma’s determination to overcome the physical challenges she’s facing is admirable.

It’ll be even tougher for Raducanu against 13th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia next time out.

But it’s great to see Emma Raducanu taking important strides back to the top after her US Open triumph a couple of years ago.

Taylor Fritz, Andy Murray, Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu will all be star attractions at Wimbledon 2023.

Will you be there for the greatest tournament of them all?

Wimbledon 2023 promises to be historic and glamorous in equal measure.
