Novak Djokovic Wins ATP Finals To Equal Roger Federer

Novak Djokovic has won the ATP Finals for a sixth time to match the tally of the great Roger Federer.
This landmark triumph also supports the theory that Djokovic is probably still the best player in the world, even though Carlos Alcaraz ends the year as number one.
Novak was pushed hard by the exciting American Taylor Fritz in the semi-final.
And the underdog had looked certain to make it one set all in that scintillating contest.
But he was distracted by a cry from the crowd, just as he was about to execute a simple volley up at the net.
Novak took full advantage of Taylor’s mistake and eventually went through thanks to two hard-fought tie-breaks.
Fritz will doubtless come back even stronger. And we can’t wait to see him at Wimbledon once more.

Djokovic didn’t need to ride his luck so much against Casper Ruud in the ATP Final.
But he did have to win an awesome 36-shot rally just before closing out.
That determination helped the impressive Serb overcome the 23-year-old Norwegian 7-5, 6-3 in the showpiece to secure more riches.
Djokovic won an incredible $4,740,300 or £3.985 million as reward for marching through the tournament unbeaten.
Who would bet against Novak now for the Australian Open, where he will try to equal Rafael Nadal’s record of 22 Grand Slams?
Djokovic said: ‘I don’t know what the future holds, but I know that what I hold in my mind is a huge hunger still to win trophies.’
Ruud would love to win a big one too, having been runner-up at the French and US Opens and now Turin. But his time will come.
As for Novak, he could become the undisputed greatest of all time next year.
Novak Djokovic will do everything to defend his title at Wimbledon 2023.
Meanwhile super-Brit Joe Salisbury will also go into the New Year savouring that winning feeling.
He and American doubles partner Rajeev Ram beat the Croatian pair, Nikola Metkic and Mate Pavic 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 to win their own ATP Final.
