Federer: Tennis Has Incredible New Superstars To Enjoy!

Locker Room

September 21, 2022

Federer and tennis. These two words have been inseparable for so long. But Roger will play his final professional match on Friday – in the doubles at the Laver Cup.

That will mark the end of an era for many. Yet Federer knows the sport is bigger than one man – or indeed any of the Big Four.

He joins Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic as Team Europe take on Team World this weekend. It should be an exciting tournament.

Federer knows that Wimbledon 2023 will be packed with incredible new superstars, though. And The Championships are London’s biggest social event.

Like everyone else, Roger can’t wait to watch the youngsters as they turn into the new greats.

Roger looked back fondly on the years the Big Four enjoyed their stranglehold.

He explained: ‘For ten years, almost nobody else could win anything. It was like a lock on the big tournaments.

‘For the fans, it’s been a joy to watch, and I’m sure some will be sad I’m leaving. But then again, there will be wonderful new people.

‘I think the tour allows for incredible storytelling, so that’s why I know the game is very safe. And I’m sure it will see incredible new superstars.’

In truth the incredible new superstars are already here. Carlos Alcaraz is still a teenager and yet he won the US Open with some mind-blowing tennis.

Iga Swiatek isn’t much older and yet she can beat anyone when she’s in the mood. Each champion is a world number one with a decade or more ahead of them at the top of the game.

Then we have the supreme entertainer Nick Kyrgios, who is coming through so strong that he reached last year’s Wimbledon final!

Add American superstars like Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz and you just know the future is bright.

And don’t forget Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal will still be fighting for the Wimbledon 2023 title as serious contenders.

Brits can also shout for Cameron Norrie, who could pull off a shock himself at Wimbledon 2023. Young Jack Draper looks the real deal and could go also deep. Might Andy Murray still be there to win big matches on Centre Court?

And former US Open champion Emma Raducanu will grow stronger with each passing month. She will always be a superstar now!

We’ll enjoy seeing the Big Four together for the last time in the coming days of Laver Cup action.

But let’s listen to Federer and look forward to Wimbledon 2023 with a new passion too!

Will you be there?
